Table, Chair, Swimming & Corn on the Cob

I recently decided it was time to buy little man a table. He really loved the one at my sister's house, so we thought let's get one like that. So I picked him up a picnic table for him to eat his breakfasts, lunches and snacks at. The kid loves it! Every morning he runs to his table and asks for pancakes, waffles, oatmeal or whatever he feels like eating that day.The same day I bought the picnic table, I decided to buy him his own chair and the store had a Disney Cars chair on sale. Now mind you, Eli and I both thought it was "safer" to get the picnic table then a regular table with movable chairs. However, within one hour of me being home from the store, the kid fell out of his new chair and into the pieces of the picnic table (not yet put together) and gave himself a black eye. Only our child! lol

Anyway, he totally enjoys sitting in his new Disney chair. I have found him playing his play guitar and reading books in it. He also will sit in it in the mornings to do his nebulizer treatment. Which, by the way, is what the pulmonary specialist has us doing every morning and night.
We just started swim classes again! Wasn't sure what to expect since Kai hasn't been in the pool since last summer. Well, he wasn't exactly happy, but he didn't cry either. He just kept saying "no, no, no". By the end of the 30 minute class, he actually seemed to be enjoying it since I found a boat and a ball for him to swim after. Zane and Trey joined the class too. Zane loved it, Trey hated it. It is so funny how different they can be.
Just this week I had decided to cook some corn on the cob. Well, I put one on Eli's plate and one on my plate. After watching me bite into mine, Kai looked right at me and said "more?" Which in his terms means that he wanted some. So I gave him a bite. He loved it and took it out of my hand. He then began to chow down on it. Eli and I were laughing the whole time. Needless to say, he ate it all and I had to get myself another one.

Other than all of the fun things I have already talked about, little man continues to grow and learn. His newest saying is "See ya" when he says good-bye. He is also repeating everything we say, so we are on our best behavior. lol He is infatuated with the Disney movie "Toy Story 2". He loves Woody and Buzz! We have to watch it every night before bed. We do trick him though and go to the end of the movie so it is only about 20 to 30 minutes long. This kid will not leave the room until he sees the credits rolling. He also loves a Leapfrog video that teaches him his ABC's, and we truly believe he is learning from it. He has picked up a habit of grabbing his blankie and all of his stuffed animals that are on his bed in the morning and bringing them out into the family room with him. He does have a fit when he can't seem to pick them all up. So we have to help him! lol Not a dull moment in the Rivera household.

Nonstop Growth, Development, & Adventures

In February we went on two trips. One to Pittsburgh to visit our good friends, John and Jing, to celebrate their engagement with them. The other was a drive up to Orlando for a weekend of events with my sorority sisters to celebrate our Chapter's 10th anniversary.

It was fabulous to see all of my line sisters and to see so many sisters, old and new! It was a great time to visit with everyone! While in Orlando, we picked up a UCF outfit for Kai. Go Knights!
As for Kai, he is growing so much! He basically runs or hops everywhere and is speaking up a storm. He knows his numbers from one to ten in both English and Spanish (thanks to the daycare). He is trying to form full sentences, but not quite there yet. He LOVES to play outside and in the bathtub. He remains to be all boy....running, climbing, jumping and just full of energy!

Into the New Year...

2011 started out just as hectic as 2010 had ended. Kai turned 18 months old. We had play dates, birthday parties, outside fun, a trip to the hospital and a change in beds. As usual we continued to meet with Kai's friends, Trey and Zane, as often as possible. Since the weather was great, we scheduled time with them at the park and at the beach. The boys loved playing outdoors! In mid-January, Kai had another episode with his lungs and this time ended up in the hospital with pneumonia in both lungs. After 4 days in the hospital, we got to come home. Thank goodness he is ok and recovered fairly fast. Needless to say, the pediatrician recommends we visit a pulmonary specialist. Even with being sick, the minute we got home, he was a happy, go lucky kid again. Two days after getting home from the hospital, our little dare devil decided that he did not want to be in his crib anymore. I was watching him on the monitor, but thought that there was no way that he would actually climb out. Then, all of a sudden, he disappeared from the monitor screen and the next minute I know it Eli and I are running toward his room. By the time we got there, little man was sprawled "superman style" on the floor crying, not hurt, just scared. That was the end of the crib! We upgraded him to the toddler bed, and who knew how he would react to it, but he LOVES it! He likes climbing in and out of it continuously and putting all his stuffed animals in it to sleep with. In the latter half of the month, we attended two birthday parties. One for his cousin, Angelina, at The Little Gym. The other was for his god brother, Jayden. He had a blast at both parties!
Look, he's finally getting hair...lol

1st Trip to the Snow

We finally got a chance to take Kai up to Ohio to visit his auntie, uncle and cousins. It was also his first time to see the snow. He thoroughly enjoyed playing at Auntie Shelley's since she has so many toys for him to play with. He played in the garden house, on the rocking police car, on the Rock Band drums, the slide that Auntie Shelley had to bring in from the snow, and so many other things. Then it was time to put on the snow gear! Needless to say he hated it and we just loved how cute he looked. He did, however, look like the kid from "A Christmas Story". lol I mean who could blame us, look at how cute he was in his gear. He did get totally mad at his momma when I put him down in the snow and made him make a snow angel. All in all it was a fun trip and Kai loved playing with his cousins and hanging out with his auntie, uncle and, let's not forget, Daisy. Now we can't wait to see them again!

Christmas Day!

Christmas morning Kai woke up to several goodies under the tree. However, he really only cared about his new basketball! It was the first thing he grabbed. After a few minutes we got him to shoot it into the basket. After several more minutes, we finally got him to try out his new 4 wheeler. Which he immediately crashed into the wall. lol It was a very long morning of trying to get him to open all of his gifts since all he wanted to do was play with each one rather than opening the next. lol Bruiser got in on the action too by sporting one of his presents given to him by the Klein's. After opening gifts, having breakfast and then playing outside, it was off to Ohio to visit the Tennant's.

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve was spent with the family. You can see Courtney was not so happy to have to eat before opening gifts, or maybe she just didn't want uncle Eli taking her picture. lol Brendon also couldn't wait to open gifts. Dinner was yummy as always and Kai even ate this time (unlike Thanksgiving). Then it was on to gift opening. Kai wasn't sure what was going on but he sure had fun. He is very spoiled by his auntie and cousins!

December 2010

December was a hectic month for us. We continued to take Kai to his play dates as much as possible. He and his buddies are getting so big. It is hard to imagine that we have been doing play dates together since they were all around 3 months old. We also prepared for the Christmas holiday. Kai helped me decorate the tree, then took the ornaments off, then put them on again, then off again, then on again....well you get the picture. lol Thank goodness we were smart enough to buy all non-glass ornaments! We took him to meet Santa, but this was a special (and kind of scary) Fireman Santa. As you can imagine, Kai cried and wanted nothing to do with him. So we took him to the park afterward to make up for it. He loves to slide! Kai really enjoyed all of the holiday lights around the neighborhood and looked forward to our drive home from day care each day because he could see them. We also learned that his favorite thing about the holiday besides the lights were snowmen, or as he called them "man". So we invested in one of the blow up, light up lawn ornaments and I must say is was a very good investment. Every morning when the "man" was not on, Kai would say "uh oh", and I would say "he melted". Then every night we would turn him on and Kai would watch him come to life, and he would always have a huge smile on his face as he got excited and would say "man".
